Beta Calibration v1.1 · Review assumptions before use.
Turn an instrument's percent-of-full-scale accuracy specification into an absolute allowance and limits at each reference point.
Full-scale accuracy → reading limits
Use the instrument manufacturer's full-scale convention. Span and upper-range magnitude differ on offset and bipolar ranges.
Derivation, conventions & limits
Absolute allowance = accuracy percent ÷ 100 × selected basis. Lower reading limit = reference − allowance. Upper reading limit = reference + allowance. Signed error = actual reading − reference. Direct comparison includes the endpoints and uses unrounded values.
Full-scale magnitude is entered explicitly from the manufacturer specification. Span = instrument upper − instrument lower. For −10 to +10 V at ±1%, a manufacturer full-scale magnitude of 10 V gives ±0.1 V; span 20 V gives ±0.2 V. Neither convention should be assumed from the range alone. The bipolar example deliberately requires you to choose a basis.
Only a simple, constant percent-of-selected-basis specification is supported. Percent of reading, additive counts/digits, combined or split specifications, temperature coefficients and other manufacturer conditions need separate treatment.
This calculator is a direct tolerance comparison. It provides no calibration certification, traceability, reference uncertainty evaluation, uncertainty budget or conformance guard band. Test points outside the instrument range are flagged and not compared. Limits are not clipped to the instrument range.
